Planning/ Designing

Some murals I have created myself, and others with specific looks and goals in mind.

The first step is to take a look at the area that the client would like to have the mural painted on. If there are any impurities such as mold or calcium buildup, paint cannot be apply as it will just peel off. If the wall is "paintable", we move onto the next step: Concept. All murals start with a hand drawn picture to see how the mural would look like. Then if there is a certain color scheme desired, I would then use water color or pencil crayon on the picture to try to demonstrate what the coloring would look like. Once we both have a common vision, I will draw a grid on the wall with washable marker, and then fill it in with the drawing. When that is completed to the clients' desire, I then can paint.

Painting

How I start is with making sure I have my basic tools, like paint brushes, paints (acrylic semi-gloss), mixing containers, a rinsing bucket with soapy warm water, a painting ladder (depending on the size of the mural), and a drop cloth. The first steps are to outline the drawing in black paint and then wash away the marker. Then the colors can be filled in, with or without shading. Once it is completely filled in I then will do the final outlines and date and sign the mural.
